As of June, for a limited time, visitors will be able to tour one of the world’s most fascinating monuments: the Flavian Amphitheatre “Colosseum” (Colosseo), symbol of the imperial pomp of Ancient Rome. The Festival at Rome’s Basilica di Massenzio is a stage upon which the invited authors propose the fruit of their thoughts directly to a vast audience. The Festival di Massenzio is an invitation to share an experience that belongs to the world of writing. It can be listened to, much like a concert, and can be viewed as a theatrical work. The title of this edition of the Festival is a play on words of the Fellini masterpiece “La dolce vita“, to begin reading about that decade with a fresher attitude, even if many years have passed, with the considerations and analyses of philosophers and the imagined re-elaboration of narrators.

Departing from this linear provocation, a series of ten evenings will unwind: a kind of return to the past in order to move ahead better,as in the children’s board game Game of the Goose.
However, this year – alongside the usual contribution of the authors – there will also be interventions by philosophers and an economist. There are many female authors to testify to the fact that the strength and quality of a woman’s viewpoint are essential.
The first evening is dedicated to Ennio Flaiano.

The Fondazione di Venezia (Venice Foundation) has brought part of its collection to Rome, a selection of works featuring paintings, glassworks and photographs to retrace the phases of the century-long relationship linking Venice to the Biennial.
This exhibit is a new opportunity to display the rarely accessible Fondazione di Venezia collection to the public and to promote it as well. Rome’s Museo Carlo Bilotti is re-proposing the history of the collection assembled by the Fondazione di Venezia, a history documented by approximately fifty paintings including outstanding works by Boccioni, Ciardi, De Pisis, Carena, Casorati, Depero, Cagnaccio di San Pietro, Marussig, Vedova, Santomaso, Pizzinato, Tancredi and Plessi.

The exhibit also features approximately 30 Murano glassworks, acquired from the historic Venezia pavilion, created by legendary glasswork masters and illustrious artists and designers such as Tapio Wirkkala, Carlo Scarpa and Paolo Venini. A selection of photographs opens the exhibit, a collection of photographs of the leading exponents of 20th century art, often portrayed while setting up their space at the Biennial. These photographs arrive from the archives of photographer Graziano Arici and the De Maria archives of the Fondazione di Venezia.

The David di Donatello is an Italian movie award assigned by Ente David di Donatello, part of the “Accademia del Cinema Italiano”, for the finest Italian and international cinematic productions according to standards similar to those of the “American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences”. The exhibit is offering an original opportunity to become familiar with his art by admiring his masterpieces through the painter’s view of the world of Nature.
De Chirico was born in 1888 in Volos, the heart of Classical Greece, to Italian parents. He dedicated his entire life to the poetic exploration of an art aimed at making the enigmatic quality of reality emerge.
The purpose of the “La Natura secondo de Chirico” exhibit in Rome is to present an occasion for a new critical élan, a re-reading of works by the 20th–century master through the central theme of his poetics. The idea of Nature remains a constant reference: whether it is being idealized (as in his mythological landscapes) or it is being rejected (as in the emotionless geometries of his mannequins).
The exhibit is edited by distinguished art critic Achille Bonito Oliva and features 120 paintings from the most illustrious public and private collections, arranged in a rich and evocative itinerary in the galleries alongside Rome’s monumental Rotonda di Palazzo delle Esposizioni.
